Meet Your Providers
Our dedicated team of clinicians and staff brings together diverse backgrounds, decades of experience, and a shared commitment to compassionate, evidence-based care for every client we serve.

Clinical Psychologist, Psychology (PsyD)
Dr. Alfonso Cappa-Meléndez
I'm a Clinical Psychologist (PsyD) with over 15 years of experience across diverse settings, from substance abuse clinics and community mental health centers to correctional assessments and primary care. I co-founded Pueblo Pioneer Psychology with Dr. Maria Jimenez to bring compassionate, accessible, evidence-based care to a community that needed more.
My approach blends Cognitive Behavioral Therapy with a biopsychosocial perspective, drawing from psychodynamic, gestalt, and humanistic traditions. I'm passionate about reducing stigma, promoting mental wellness, and helping people build resilience through adversity.
Outside the office, I enjoy drawing, painting, movies, cooking, anime, comic books, and cheering for the Broncos. I live by the belief that growth often comes through challenges.

Licensed Professional Counselor
Melishé Spangenberg, LPC
I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor with over six years of experience in mental health. Originally from South Africa, I earned my master’s in clinical psychology from North West University and have worked in inpatient psychiatric care, hospitals, and private practice. I use evidence-based therapies like CBT, Schema Therapy, and DBT, with a special passion for career counseling.
I prioritize trust, authenticity, and collaboration; empowering clients with practical tools for long-term growth and resilience.
Outside the office, I love the outdoors, spending time with family, playing sports, and nurturing my garden —where I’m reminded that growth takes time, care, and persistence.

Licensed Professional Counselor Candidate
Jackie Horton, LPCC
As a Licensed Professional Counselor Candidate (LPCC), I bring 22 years of experience, 11 of those focused on counseling youth in educational settings. I specialize in supporting children, teens, and LGBTQ+ individuals, offering a safe, affirming space to explore identity, purpose, and personal growth.
My approach combines empathy with evidence-based practices like CBT and DBT. I also help clients build study skills and navigate career paths.
As a 4th-generation Coloradan, I’m passionate about giving back to my community. Outside of work, you’ll find me camping, hiking, or paddle boarding.

Behavioral Health Provider (BHP)
Nina Trujillo
I am currently pursuing my master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health at Adams State University, building upon my undergraduate studies at Colorado State University. My experience includes providing mental health services to a diverse range of individuals, with a particular focus on children and adolescents.
Guided by a humanistic approach, I believe in the inherent capacity for growth within each individual and value their unique journey. I am dedicated to creating a supportive and open space where clients feel secure in sharing their thoughts, feelings, and emotions.
I deeply appreciate the opportunity to understand each person’s story.

Behavioral Health Provider (BHP)
Lusita Rivera
I'm a counseling intern with 17 years of experience in the medical field, passionate about supporting individuals on their path to well-being. I use tools from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Adlerian Therapy, with a focus on how early experiences shape us. I've received extensive multicultural training and specialize in evidence-based treatments for youth, including LGBTQ+ support.
I aim to help clients discover their strengths and thrive. Outside of work, I enjoy hiking, family adventures, and exploring kid-friendly activities with my two children—plus the occasional retail therapy session.
